Sam Coppersmith Covers the Complexities of Private Foundations During National Business Institute Webinar
The legal and tax aspects of private foundations can be a complex undertaking. In the recent National Business Institute (NBI) webinar, “Private Foundations From Start to Finish,” Sam Coppersmith and his panel of co-presenters provided insight to help lawyers advise clients in this area of law. Specifically, he spoke on:
- Different types of private foundations, funding and giving options, and rules governing non-operating foundations vs. operating foundations.
- Organizing and governing a private foundation, foundation board considerations, and the investment of funds and distribution.
- Filing necessary tax returns, IRS Form 990 – PF, IRS Form 990 – T, requirements, contributions, disbursements, expenses, and more.
- Changes for exempt organizations, including private foundations, under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
