Coppersmith Brockelman’s Advocacy Helps Arizona Abortion Access Act Qualify for 2024 Ballot
After an intense month of legal battles, the Arizona Supreme Court held last week that the Arizona Abortion Access Act (Proposition 139) will appear on the November 2024 general election ballot. Arizona voters will get to decide whether abortion protections should be enshrined into the Arizona Constitution at the ballot box, and Coppersmith Brockelman’s attorneys played a key role at every step along the way.
The firm’s representation of Arizona for Abortion Access demonstrates the power and effectiveness of its full-service political, election, and public law practice. Coppersmith Brockelman attorneys provided comprehensive legal support from the very beginning, including drafting the initiative’s language, managing corporate formation and governance issues, and defending the measure in court.
With the firm’s guidance, Arizona for Abortion Access brought together a diverse coalition of local and national organizations, secured a record-breaking number of petition signatures, overcame the wrongful rejection of thousands of signatures by the Secretary of State, argued against the Legislative Council’s summary of the Act, and overcame a desperate challenge to the Act’s 200-word summary.
Coppersmith Brockelman is proud to once again demonstrate its deep commitment to improving the lives of Arizonans. Learn more about Coppersmith Brockelman’s Elections, Political, and Public Law practice area.
